Pre-school offers two sessions for younger children, from the age of 2 years. These sessions are exclusive to those children not eligible for Rising Fives (see below), and offer the opportunity for younger children to have social interaction with other children and introduce them to the pre-school environment. For these sessions only, the children do not have to be potty trained, and a quiet area will be provided for rest or sleep. Parents are requested to provide a bag with a supply of nappies and baby wipes.
GENERAL SESSIONS (age 2 ½ - 4yrs)
Pre-school also has several general sessions, open to all children from the age of 2 ½ years. These sessions provide a middle ground between Jolly Tots and Rising Fives.
RISING FIVES (age 3-4yrs)
Pre-school offers three sessions exclusively for children starting school in the following academic year. At these sessions we prepare children for school life by developing social skills such as independence, confidence, speaking and listening and co-operation. We also seek to develop early literacy and number skills. These sessions were developed through liaison with one of the reception teachers at Mossley School and occasionally the rising fives children have the opportunity to visit the Reception class for an afternoon story, to watch the Christmas play or anything else which the school feels may be of interest to the children.
COLLECTION OF CHILDREN
To comply with the Children Act (1989) we ask parents to complete and sign an Authorization Form, indicating whom may collect their child. Children must be collected promptly. Due to other bookings in the hall it is important for the hall, and particularly the car parking area to be cleared by 3pm at the end of the afternoon sessions. We regret that children cannot be left earlier than the normal start time. A child becomes the responsibility of pre-school once the inner gate of the Old School has been opened by the supervisor and the child has entered the main room(s). Children remain the responsibility of the pre-school until the supervisor hands over the child to the parent/carer at the end of the session.
